Stareep Ring Review: Affordable Smart Ring With No Subscription
Smart rings promise health tracking without the bulk of a smartwatch — but most come with high prices and monthly subscriptions.
The Stareep Ring takes a different approach. At just $75 (early bird) and with no subscription fee, it aims to deliver the essentials: sleep tracking, heart rate monitoring, and basic activity data in a comfortable, low-profile design.
After several days of hands-on testing, here’s how the Stareep Ring performs — and whether it’s worth backing on Kickstarter.

Comfort and all-day wear matter more than advanced analytics
You mainly care about sleep duration, heart rate, and basic activity tracking
You’re comfortable backing a Kickstarter project with some feature uncertainty
Maybe, if…
You’re deciding between this and a more mature ecosystem like Oura
You rely heavily on detailed sleep-stage analysis or calorie accuracy
You’re waiting for iOS support and Apple Health integration
No, if…
You want a fully finished, retail-ready product today
Automatic workout detection and AI-driven coaching are must-haves
You prefer a device with long-term software support already proven
Design and Comfort
The Stareep Ring uses ceramic construction, standing out from the metal finishes common among smart rings. It looks slightly larger than RingConn or Omni, but in terms of weight, it feels similar, and there’s no sense of bulk.
Comfort is one of its strongest points. I wore it continuously for several days — during sleep, exercise, washing hands, and even washing dishes — with no irritation, trapped sweat, or allergic reactions. The ceramic surface resists grease and scratches well, maintaining a clean look without extra care.
Compared with a smartwatch, the Stareep Ring is easier to forget you’re wearing, especially overnight.
Battery Life
Battery performance is promising. After charging to 100% at 10 p.m., I wore it for 12 hours, and the battery dropped only 4%. Extrapolating, the company’s seven-day battery claim seems realistic.
I haven’t tested a full charging cycle yet, so charging speed remains unknown. Still, based on experience with other smart rings, a seven-day battery life is more than enough for daily use.
Sleep and Health Tracking Accuracy
To assess accuracy, I wore the Stareep Ring overnight alongside an Amazfit Bip 6.
| Metric | Stareep Ring | Amazfit Bip 6 |
|---|---|---|
| Total Sleep | 7h 6m | 7h 10m |
| Deep Sleep | 2h 48m | 2h 09m |
| REM Sleep | 1h 46m | 1h 08m |
| Awake | 0 times | 2 times |
| Heart Rate | 83 bpm | 82 bpm |
Total sleep time was closely aligned. Sleep stage analysis varied more noticeably — Stareep reported longer deep and REM sleep and no awakenings. This suggests sleep-stage metrics should be interpreted as directional, not clinical.
Heart-rate readings were consistent, showing negligible difference with the reference device.
Activity Tracking
Daily activity tracking showed:
| Metric | Stareep Ring | Amazfit Bip 6 |
|---|---|---|
| Steps | 2,076 | 1,924 |
| Distance | 1.43 km | 1.39 km |
| Calories | 119 | 63 |
Step count and distance were consistent, but calorie estimates differed significantly — likely due to algorithmic differences. Automatic workout detection is not supported, requiring manual start for activities like walking or running.
App Experience and Features
The companion app presents data clearly and is easy to navigate. Currently, it supports Health Connect, but there is no iOS App Store version, meaning Apple Health integration is not available.
While it lacks AI-driven insights, the app provides a holistic activity score with assessments covering:
Stay Active Assessment
Beneficial Activity Assessment
Exercise Volume Assessment
Exercise Frequency Assessment
Stability was solid over several days: no data loss, Bluetooth dropouts, app crashes, or failed syncs.
Smart Touch and Notifications
The ring provides vibration-based call reminders and alarms, enough to notice notifications without being intrusive.
Its Smart Touch feature allows control of music, camera, scrolling, and slide/page flips. While not revolutionary, it adds practical functionality that could become more useful as firmware is refined.
Oura / RingConn Comparison
The Stareep Ring doesn’t match the depth of health insights offered by Oura, nor does it offer the same ecosystem polish as RingConn, but its low entry price and lack of subscription fees make it a compelling alternative for users seeking basic wellness tracking without ongoing costs.
Kickstarter Caveat
Remember, the Stareep Ring is still a Kickstarter project, meaning buyers are backing a pre-production product rather than buying retail-ready hardware.
While my hands-on experience has been positive, hardware, software, and timelines may change before mass production. Final units might differ, app features could evolve, and software support may vary. Crowdfunded projects carry inherent risks including manufacturing delays and supply-chain challenges.
Price and Value
At an early-bird price of $75, the Stareep Ring is dramatically cheaper than most competitors. No subscription fee adds to the appeal, making it easy to recommend for users seeking basic health and sleep tracking at a low cost.
The Bottom Line
The Stareep Ring delivers solid core health tracking and comfort at a price most competitors can’t match. Battery life is strong, app performance is stable, and the lack of a subscription removes a major barrier to entry.
While advanced analytics, automatic workout detection, and ecosystem polish are missing, it excels where it counts: comfort, affordability, and simplicity — making it a strong candidate for first-time smart ring buyers.
